Gengar, the shining example of a glass cannon, will tear through this surfer faster than any other counter, at the cost of several more deaths than any relateable counter.

Ground

Groudon is by far the tankiest of counters, being around 4th in time as well as only suffering 1 death in the course of a battle, and that is before a weather boost. If trainers want a interesting challenge, solo a Alolan Raichu with just a Groudon!Good Alola Raichu raid countersTime to win drops further from here, however a consideration must always be given to weather, where some of these counters actually top the whole list in timing.

Alola Raichu has so many top-tier counters, it won’t be hard to send it crashing. Between Groudon, Tyranitar, Mewtwo, and Gengar, this psychic surfer has to deal with some of the highest damage dealing Pokémon in the game.

Your fastest time to win, not accounting for weather, will be with Legacy Shadow Claw / Shadow Ball Gengar, followed by Mewtwo, then Tyranitar  and finally Groudon, although this can very easily change depending on the weather.

As you can see, the best weather to hit an Alola Raichu in is either Sunny or Fog weather, where they boost the likes of Groudon or Gengar, while providing no benefits to Raichu. However, you can get some benefit in the [rain] where a Pinsir will become the best attacker, at the cost of Raichu then receiving a boost to its own Electric attacks.

Windy might make it harder if it happens to have Psychic, however the difference in time is minimal at best, and in fact a point can be made the extra damage a weather boosted Psychic does can charge your bar faster and make the fight faster in certain cases.

Additional Counters

For those looking for challenges, or those in need of counters that might not have the counters listed above, here are some still viable options:

  • Rayquaza/Dragonite with Dragon Tail / Outrage
  • Shiftry with Feint Attack / Foul Play
  • Cacturne with Sucker Punch / Dark Pulse
  • Salamence with Dragon Tail / Draco Meteor
  • Rhydon with Mud-Slap / Earthquake
